Inhabitant (2023)
Everyone is an empty space, inhabited by memories, thoughts and feelings. Many things enter this space, they may occupy it for a while or briefly appear only to disappear. But some things, some people, may remain to haunt the interior...
Inhabitant is a photobook which explores imagery relating to ghosts and haunted interiors. The images play around with the metaphor of being haunted to portray mental health while also exploring haunted landscapes. There is a blend of long exposure self portraits alongside intimate landscapes of my hometown York, known as one of the most haunted cities in Europe.
Everyone is an empty space, inhabited by memories, thoughts and feelings. Many things enter this space, they might occupt it for a while or briefly appear only to disappear. But some things, some people, may remain to haunt the interior.
Much like how they inhabit the streets and buildings, ghosts can inhabit the human psyche. They nestle deep in the recesses, tear at the walls, possess the body and soul. Simply put, they inhabit, even if they're nowhere to be seen.
