Madelyn (2022)

Have I ever told you about Madelyn? She's there in moments of reflection, when I pass by mirrors and dare to gaze...

Madelyn is a zine exploring my everyday experiences of chronic wrist pain (Madelung's deformity), incorporating experimental techniques to portray my condition in a more vulnerable yet surreal way. The work features self portraits, in which includes portraits featuring a personified interpretation of my condition, as well as photos of splints, bandages and wrists.

Have I ever told you about Madelyn? She's there in moments of reflection, when I pass by mirrors and dare to gaze. Mentioned in fleeting moments or hazy explanations. An internal quarrel that stings like a dozen needles. She's a silent skeleton staring blankly back at me. Clutching at my wrists, challenging me to give in. But if I stop, I'll never see what lies ahead of me. So I keep pushing forward, hand in hand with Madelyn.
